چکیده

A frictional geostrophic model is used to examine how the stability of the thermo haline circulation is a ected by idealized topographic variations and the presence or absence of wind stress If the ow exhibits collapses we consider how topography and wind stress a ect the ensuing oscillations Large scale slope up towards the north or the west can signi cantly destabilize the circulation by modifying the barotropic ow and reducing the depth of convection Wind stress stabilizes the circulation by deep ening the thermocline in the subtropical gyre Wind driving can also radically reduce the period of oscillations by destabilizing the northern halocline in the collapsed phase The overall period of the oscillation is usually governed by the time taken for di usive warming to destabilize the deep ocean

Modeling of tidal currents effect on PersianGulf density using MIKE model

General circulation of Persian Gulf has a cyclonic pattern that affected by tide, wind stress and thermohaline force. Although tidal force is very effective in values of current speed, but thermohaline force is dominant in long time because tidal forcing has a short period and returning nature. Tide and density parameters are important in navigating and shipping, especially when ships approachi...

The role of topography on the simulation of Sistan wind structure in the east of Iranian Plateau

In this study, the interaction between atmosphere and earth surface and its effect on the simulation of Sistan wind structure in the East of Iranian plateau is investigated. For this purpose, four experiments have been carried out with RegCM4, with horizontal resolution of 20 km. In non-topography experiments, the model was implemented in three different conditions. The results indicated that t...

On the Robustness of the Interdecadal Modes of the Thermohaline Circulation

Ocean models in box geometry forced by constant surface fluxes of density have been found to spontaneously generate interdecadal oscillations of the thermohaline circulation. This paper analyzes the sensitivity of these oscillations to various physical effects, including the presence of mesoscale turbulence, various thermal surface boundary conditions, and the presence of wind forcing or bottom...

A Wind-Induced Thermohaline Circulation Hysteresis and Millennial Variability Regimes

The multiple equilibria of the thermohaline circulation (THC: used here in the sense of the meridional overturning circulation) as function of the surface freshwater flux has been studied intensively following a Stommel paper from 1961. It is shown here that multistability and hysteresis of the THC also exist when the wind stress amplitude is varied as a control parameter. Both the Massachusett...

The Role of Playa Tabas Messina in the Dust of Sistan Region with Rely on the role of Sistsn,s Wind of 120 days

The circulation of dust suspended in the air is among the most significant environmental problems in the various regions of the world. However, the primary source of the dust present in the atmosphere is fine-grained particles and These tiny particles are more frequent in arid and semi-arid areas. The Tabas Masina Playa in Iran is one of the regions prone to dust production due to warm and dry ...
